Dad and Mom
July 2, 2005

Dad is currently in rehabilitation at Manor Care, located:
Room 324
8700 Warner Ave, #140
FV, CA 92708

We anticipate bringing him home early next week, between Monday and Wednesday, with a full-time CNA assisting with the daily regimen.

CURRENT STATUS

On Monday, September 12, Dad had a follow-up appointment with his neurologist.   Dr. Kim diagnosed Dad with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).

GBM is the most common and most aggressive of the primary brain tumors.  World Health Organization (WHO) classification of primary brain tumors lists GBM as a Grade IV astrocytoma, which is highly malignant.  We will be treating the cancer with radiation and chemotherapy.

Dad went to his radiation oncologist, Dr. Chen  yesterday, September 15. Dad underwent a radiation treatment simulation, which mapped the brain to help the doctor identify how he will attack the cancer. He will begin radiation treatment next Wednesday, September 21.

Dad will meet with Dr. Klein, chemotherapy oncologist on Monday, September 19.

HISTORY

Dr. Kim believes that the tumor developed in less than one year. In hindsight, early signs could have been observed in his depression and changes in personality. He suffered from an earache for several months prior to seeing a doctor.

·       Early July friends suggested Dad might have had a stroke. He was taken to his doctor the  following day; MRI indicated no signs of stroke.

·       July 29, 2005 sign of bigger problem; Dad was bedridden with migraine and an intense earache. Took him to his ear doctor.

o       Pain did not alleviate with antibiotics, or with weekly visits to the doctor.

·          August 24 first time Dad spoke of disorientation at home and feeling it was his time

·          August 25, took him to the ER, but he was released – no admission

·         August 30, Dad taken to primary care physician, Dr. Klein. He was checked into Huntington Beach Hospital.

·          August 31, MRI and Cat Scan, identified tumor; transferred to Hoag Hospital at 8PM

·          September 2, surgery to remove tumor. Removed 70 - 80%

·         September 8, dad released to Manor Care
